Pool terrace above Bucak Bay with bougainvillea and the mountains of Kaş
Kaş · Antalya · Türkiye  Founding Period 1-15 November 2026

A village on the bay. Open 1 November.

Barbarossa Hub is the third fixed node of Web3 Hub Kaş and Web3 META Hub İstanbul. One hundred rooms, seven themed villas and a library above a bay that faces the Greek island of Meis. Cohorts of fifteen days, one long table, one question for every house.

Vision

Two inventions that organize the world were born on this coast. The next ones will be drafted here.

Every lasting institution began as a conversation between people who stayed in one place long enough to trust each other. Coins did. Federations did. The charters, ledgers and constitutions of the coming century will begin the same way, in rooms where builders, scholars, founders and neighbors share a table for weeks at a time.

Money

In Sardis, the kings of Lydia struck the first coins in history. A lion's head pressed into electrum gave every merchant on the Aegean one shared measure of value. Currency began as a protocol: a promise, stamped in metal, that a stranger's coin is worth what it says.

Federation

On the mountains and bays around Kaş, twenty-three cities formed the Lycian League. Each city sent delegates to a common assembly with votes in proportion to its size. Montesquieu named it the model of a confederate republic, and James Madison studied it while the American founders designed their union.

The next layer

Programmable money, digital jurisdictions, collective decision systems, AI that serves its community and economies that regenerate their place. The people drafting these are scattered across the world's laptops. Barbarossa Hub gathers them on the shore where the first drafts were written.

The ambition

A capital for the builders of programmable civilization.

Our aim for the next ten years is concrete: a visible share of the protocols, charters, pilots and institutions that shape money and governance in the 2030s should carry a Kaş origin. Five commitments shape the campus toward that aim.

01

A home for founders of new institutions

Teams drafting monetary systems, governance protocols, digital jurisdictions and public goods funding mechanisms receive a village to live in, a cohort to test their ideas against and a season long enough to ship a first version.

02

A laboratory with a real town

Kaş has a harbor, a market, fishermen, hoteliers and a municipality. Ideas about payments, local economies and civic participation can meet actual shopkeepers and neighbors on the same afternoon. Every house runs pilots with the people who live here.

03

An assembly in the Lycian tradition

Each cohort closes with a Synedrion, a gathering where the houses send delegates, present what they built and decide together what the next cohort takes on. Seven houses, one table, a practice of self-government at the scale of a village.

04

A network of fixed nodes

Kaş since 2021, İstanbul since 2023 and Barbarossa from 2026. The nodes share one calendar and one membership, and the model travels to the next city that wants its own place on the map.

05

A commons that publishes

Research, charters, code, curricula and field notes from every cohort are written for the open internet and kept in a public library. The campus grows a body of knowledge that anyone, anywhere can build on.

What Barbarossa Hub is

A campus where people who build the open internet live next door to each other.

Barbarossa Hub is a residential campus on Bucak Bay, a few minutes from the harbor of Kaş. For fifteen days at a time, builders, researchers, writers and organizers live in the same hillside village, work in the same rooms and eat at the same long tables. Then a new cohort arrives and the village begins again, a little wiser than before.

Seven villas hold the themes: AI, regeneration, parallel societies, open protocols, collective decision making, local economies and human flourishing. Every house has a resident lead, a first question and a program that grows out of the people who live there. The hall seats a hundred, the library holds a thousand books, and the sea waits one hundred and eighty-nine steps below the terraces.

The campus is the third fixed node of a network that began in 2021 with a coworking room on Bilginler Sokak and grew into Web3 META Hub in İstanbul. Every node keeps its own rhythm. The İstanbul node is a city of events and introductions. The Kaş room is a neighborhood. Barbarossa is the place where people stay long enough to finish something.

Fixed means the doors stay open all year: seats, rooms and gatherings in three places, one community, one calendar.

Where it comes from

Lycia gathered cities around one table. Kaş keeps the habit.

Kaş has been a harbor for four thousand years. Two thousand years ago it was Antiphellos, a port of the Lycian League, a federation of cities that sent delegates to a shared assembly in proportion to their size. Its stone theater still faces the sea above the marina, and Lycian tombs cut into the cliff watch over the old town. People have been deciding things together on this coast for a very long time.

In 2021 a café in the old town became a coworking space, and remote builders began choosing Kaş as a home. In 2022 the community found its permanent room, a yellow-walled hall with a justice mural on the wall and Ethereum on the whiteboard. In 2023 it co-hosted Web3 META HUB İstanbul and carried the Kaş model onto stages from Riyadh to Dubai. In 2025 ZuKaş opened as a pop-up city of the Zuzalu network, and in September 2026 its second season gathered the coast again under the banner Ancient Roots, Future Protocols.

After five years of gatherings one request kept returning. Visitors wanted more than a week. Teams wanted a month to ship the thing they had sketched on the terrace. Researchers wanted a place to write, and families wanted a place to land. A cohort of fifteen days answers all of them: long enough to finish a chapter, short enough to say yes to.

Barbarossa gives that answer a home with enough rooms for a village, enough villas for seven different questions and enough quiet to think.

The place

Bucak Bay, Çukurbağ, on the Lycian coast.

Aerial view of Kaş harbor and the sea toward the Greek island of Meis
Kaş and the road to Bucak Bay

Club Hotel Barbarossa has welcomed guests to Bucak Bay since 1989. The buildings step down a pine hillside in terraces, with tree houses among the branches, gardens between the wings and a view that ends at Meis, the Greek island of Kastellorizo, a short boat ride from the harbor. A staircase of one hundred and eighty-nine steps leads from the upper terraces to the water. People walk it every morning.

Inside, the house has the rooms a campus needs. A hall for a hundred guests holds opening nights, town halls and demo days. A library of a thousand books fills a quiet room with long tables. Restaurants serve a cohort at one sitting. A yoga hall opens before sunrise. Seven private villas sit apart from the main house, each with its own pool, a living room with an open kitchen, and a bathroom in every bedroom.

Winters on this coast are mild and bright. The sea stays swimmable well into autumn, hiking trails run through pine and olive groves from October to May, and the town of Kaş stays open all year, with its harbor cafés, its Thursday market and its fishermen. Residents arrive in November and find a coast that belongs to the people who live on it.

Seven houses

Each villa carries one question.

A house is a theme with a front door. It has a resident lead, a first question, a program and seats for the cohort. Anyone can propose a new house. The seven below open the Founding Period.

GüneşBalcony of Villa Güneş overlooking Kaş bay
AI House · 9 bedrooms · up to 20 guests

What do we build when the model is the easy part?

Güneş is the house for teams that ship with AI. Wide balconies face the bay and the long table in the main room fits a whole team and its laptops. Mornings pair builders with real problems in Kaş, from tourism workflows to public services, which Kaş Municipality has already opened to AI sessions at the hub. Evenings are for demos at the table. A resident leaves with a working tool and with a person in town who uses it.

DünyaInfinity pool of Villa Dünya with mountain view
Regen House · 9 bedrooms · up to 18 guests

What does it mean to give back to the land you borrow?

Dünya holds the regeneration track: ecological credits, regenerative finance, olive groves and the commons of a working coast. Field days walk the shoreline and the terraces with local producers. Residents design instruments that keep value in the land they stand on, then test them with the farmers, fishers and cooperatives who would use them. The infinity pool looks over the mountains, and the house keeps the slowest clock on the campus.

Piri ReisShaded pool terrace of Villa Piri Reis with sea view
Parallel Societies House · 7 bedrooms · up to 16 guests

Which societies are we already building in parallel?

Named for the Ottoman cartographer who drew new worlds from old maps, Piri Reis is the house for network states, privacy and digital autonomy. Residents compare charters, test coordination tools and write constitutions in small groups, then read each other's drafts over dinner. The house keeps a shared map of every community its residents belong to, and the map grows with every cohort.

Turgut ReisTurquoise pergola terrace of Villa Turgut Reis
Logos House · sister villa of Piri Reis

Who holds the keys?

Turgut Reis is the house for cryptography, open protocols and the tools that let communities speak and decide in private. Reading groups work through the papers behind the software people already use. Workshops take a protocol apart and put it back together. Residents audit what they depend on and write down what they find. A turquoise pergola shades the terrace where the arguments continue after midnight.

SemaBougainvillea terrace of Villa Sema facing the bay
Civilization Lab · 6 bedrooms · up to 15 guests

How do many people decide together?

Sema is the laboratory of collective intelligence: deliberation, sensemaking in the style of pol.is, and the Grounding Engine that checks claims against evidence. Residents run real deliberations with the cohort and with groups from town, then study how the conversation changed. Every cohort leaves behind a small dataset about how people in one place reached agreement, a bougainvillea terrace away from where they began.

AteşStone facade and pool of Villa Ateş
Localism House · 4 bedrooms · up to 10 guests

What stays in town?

Ateş is the stone house of the local economy: small funds, shop-level pilots and the businesses of Kaş. Residents start where the money already moves, at the bakery, the dive center, the guesthouse and the restaurant, and ask how a payment or a loyalty scheme could leave more value in the neighborhood. The house works hand in hand with the Local Table, so a pilot can be tasted at dinner on the same day it is designed.

SuVilla Su stone house with its pool and garden
Flourishing House · 5 bedrooms · up to 12 guests · private sea access

How do we rest well enough to think well?

Su is the quiet house of the campus, with its own path to the sea. Body, mind and longevity sit side by side here: breathwork before breakfast, a swim in the bay, long sleep, slow reading and walks into the pines. The people in Su design the daily rhythm of the whole cohort. The first bell of the morning rings in this house, and the last candle of the night burns here.

Every villa has a private pool, a living room with an open kitchen, a full set of appliances and a bathroom in each bedroom. Villa details and photographs from the hotel: hotelbarbarossa.com.

Shared spaces

Rooms for every kind of work.

The villas hold the themes and the shared spaces hold the cohort. Between them, a day moves from silence to conversation to supper and back again.

Event hall · 100 seats

The Commons

Opening night on day one, town halls through the middle days and a demo day in the final week. Residents present what they built, and the people of Kaş are invited to listen and ask.

A cohort in fifteen days

Arrive on day one. Show something on day fourteen.

Every period has the same shape, so a person can plan a stay and a house can plan a program. The details change with each cohort. The arc stays.

Day 1

Arrival and opening night

Keys, villas and a first dinner. Opening night in the Commons introduces the seven houses, their leads and their questions.

Days 2 to 3

The houses open

Each lead states the house question, residents join the house that fits their work and every house meets for the first time.

Day 4

Field day

The whole cohort leaves the hill: a walk along the coast, a morning at the harbor, a day with local producers.

Days 5 to 12

Build, write, research

The long middle. Mornings of deep work, afternoons of house sessions and workshops, evenings at the long table. A weekly open house invites the town in.

Day 13

Rehearsal

Residents show each other what they have, sharpen it and ask for what is missing.

Day 14

Demo day

Each house presents in the Commons. Neighbors, partners and the next cohort sit in the audience.

Day 15

Farewell dinner and handoff

A last supper, notes left for the next cohort and the keys passed on. Some residents stay for another period.

Formats

Five ways to use the campus.

Residency

Fifteen-day cohorts

The core format. Residents join a house, share a table and finish something. Stay one period or several, and come back for the next season.

Bootcamp

Workshops and mentors for a cohort of teams

An organizer brings the teams, the villas hold the sessions and the hall hosts pitches. Mentors fly in for days of real work in the houses. Fits accelerators, foundations and ecosystem programs.

Build

Hacker and AI houses

A build week inside one themed villa. A single team or several, with the hall for the final demo and the town as the first set of users.

Getting here

Two airports, one coast road.

Dalaman airport (DLM) is the closest, about two and a half hours by road, with direct flights from İstanbul and from across Europe. Antalya airport (AYT) is about three hours away and offers the widest choice of flights. Both roads run along the Mediterranean, and the last hour winds through pine forest above the sea. We arrange transfers for every cohort.

From Kaş harbor a boat crosses to Meis in a short ride, and day trips run to Kekova, where a sunken Lycian city lies under clear water. Dive centers, sea kayaks, hiking paths and the Lycian Way all start within a few minutes of the campus. The Antiphellos theater is a short walk from the harbor and the Thursday market fills the town square.
